Sneakerella is exclusively available on Disney Plus and begins streaming Friday, May 13th. The cast of the movie let us know all the deets and who you’re going to see them channeling in this new movie.

Sneakerella is an urban spin-off of the classic Disney tale, Cinderella.  In this modern-day take, Sneakerella follows the life of a sneaker fanatic by the name of “El” who, like Cinderella, is hated on by his evil siblings.  El is rescued from his misery by his “princess charming” and her dad, the “sneaker king.”

In this live-action movie, the role of El is played brilliantly by newcomer, Chosen Jacobs. Chosen spoke with SOHH about how rapper Nelly influenced sneaker culture and how Nike Airforce Ones are his “go-to” shoe.  Chosen, who sings and raps in the movie,  also shares how popstar Bruno Mars inspired his character and how Michael Jackson and James Brown influenced his musical style.

El’s “princess charming” is Kira King who is played by Lexi Underwood.  Lexi shares how she channeled Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah to bring her songs to life.

NBA champion John Salley plays “Darius King” who is “sneaker royalty” and Kira’s dad in the movie.  Salley, whose history with hip-hop goes way back to the late producer, J. Dilla, expressed his love for battle rapping and what he thinks about the steep price tag on his NBA championship memorabilia shoes.
