Rap mogul and entrepreneur Russell Simmons is coming to Kanye West’s defense after the DONDA artist sparked controversy with anti-semitic comments that resulted in him losing multiple brand deals.

In a video released on YouTube, Simmons said he feels Kanye intentionally caused controversy statements to remove himself from his contracts.

“He can make his own everything,” says Simmons. The co-founder of Def Jam was referring to Kanye being released from Gap and Adidas. Simmons added that now that Kanye is free, he can make his own business decisions; despite Def Jam dropping Ye’s G.O.O.D label amongst the other brand deals, he lost.

“He’s gonna make more money than ever. He can support more people in the community more than ever. No one owns him,” said Simmons.

Kanye also experienced business issues with Adidas and Gap, leading to him no longer being a member of either company.

Simmons dealt with similar circumstances in his career. He stepped down from businesses in 2017 after sexual assualt allegations and was relocated to Bali, Indonesia after alleged victims came forward.
