The Sentencing

Former member of the Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Kidd Creole, has been sentenced for killing a homeless man.

Last month, Creole, real name Nathaniel Glover, received a guilty verdict on a charge of first-degree manslaughter for fatally stabbing a man named John Jolly on August 1, 2017.  In the sentencing hearing, the rap legend received a 16-year term.

In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg went on to say, “Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him. Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve. This case makes clear that if you commit violent crime, we will hold you accountable, and I thank our team for their hard work achieving justice in this matter.”

On the night of the incident, an altercation between Creole and Jolly had started after the rapper suspected that Jolly was allegedly making sexual advances at him. As reported by the New York Daily News, Jolly was living in a homeless shelter in NYC, and served five years in prison for the 1997 assault and rape of a 42-year-old woman and was registered as a level 2 sex offender.

Before the incident, witnesses testified Jolly was intoxicated during the time of the altercation. It is a possible explanation as to why bystanders who phoned the police originally thought he had fainted. Once authorities arrived and found the stab wounds in Jolly’s chest, he was immediately sent to Bellevue Hospital Center and died at the hospital.

Glover was arrested afterward.

“I’m Still Shocked”

Rap veteran Nathaniel “Kidd Creole” Glover‘s neighbors are speaking. People from Kidd’s New York community have reacted to buzz about him getting nabbed on a murder charge.

Despite the crime’s seriousness, one of Kidd’s neighbors admitted they wouldn’t imagine him killing someone.
