Kanye West fans in Times Square were greeted today by a massive 2000 square foot vertical billboard announcing the launch of the highly anticipated Yeezy X Gap X Balenciaga collection. The collection was postponed earlier this week in light of the tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
The huge announcement could be seen on the side of a highrise building on the corner of West 45th Street and simply featured a black background with the YZY x Gap logo centered in blue on the bottom. A QR code sat at the top of the billboard for fans to zoom in and checkout the collection.
The company posted a message on its website Wednesday morning: “In light of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, we are postponing the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga launch until Friday, May 27. As we pause, our hearts go out to the families and communities impacted.”
The collection itself which was announced through the music video of Kanye’s song “Life of the Party” on May 8th, comes stocked with hoodies, t-shirts, denim jackets with the Balenciaga aspect of the collab including anoraks, puffy jackets, coats, and perhaps even some insulated sleeping bags. This would mark the second collaboration between Yeezy Gap and Balenciaga collection as Kanye released 8 pieces into the capsule after his Donda 2 listening party and concert in Miami.
Ye’s “Happy” Comeback
Just days ago, Ye West returned to posting on Instagram after a month-long hiatus. In his comeback post, Kanye shows off a design that he worked on to reimagine the McDonalds Happy Meal. He worked on this design with Naoto Fukasawa from Muji Industrial.
In related news, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto recently shared a story about a Kanye West collabo that almost happened. He said Ye went to an E3 event in 2015 to pitch a video game about his late mother, Donda West.
