Devyn Tyson, also known professionally as Young Devyn, is a rapper and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. The Baby Goat artist broke into the music industry at eight when she started rapping and writing to Soca music.
From Soca To Drill
Being considered a Soca artist and a drill music rapper, she was able to tour with Skip Marley and Machel Montano at such an early stage in her career.
When referring to her Soca music, she tells Downerclub, “If you are not from the Caribbean, you’re still able to understand it and enjoy it.” She continued, “ And that’s kind of like a teaspoon, of what, you know, my culture is really about.”
The “Act Bad” rapper uses her roots from her best-of-both-worlds background of Trinidadian and New York in her music which shows in her sound and lyricism.
According to One37pm, the “Straight To It” rapper is even now considered one of the best drill rappers in New York City. In 2020, the young artist started to gain more popularity, releasing hot singles like “Make It Hot,” “Secret,” and “Drip Ain’t Free.”
Later, she signed a deal with 4th & Broadway and began working on her debut EP.
A Force Of Nature
Her debut EP, Baby Goat, released in 2021, is an eight-track project consisting of hard-hitting bars and strong production.
In September of 2022, she released her sophomore project, Baby Goat 2, which still pays tribute to her hometown; however, she continues to experiment more with her sound.
She tells One37pm:
“Like, it’s not like I’m doing one type of sound throughout the whole project. It’s just different things, but it’ll all make sense.”
She has already performed at Rolling Loud New York and even featured on Hot 97’s “Who’s Next” showcase, which features up-and-coming artists making headway in the industry.
The “Like This” rapper is showing fans and critics that she is a force of nature while also making space for the next generation of female drill rappers to have their time to shine.
