In an interview with The Breakfast Club on March 2, Grammy Award-winning singer, Chaka Khan, discussed her thoughts on “The 200 Best Singers of All Time” which was a list published by Rolling Stone in January.
The “Ain’t Nobody” singer didn’t hold her tongue and mentioned the singers on the list, including Adele, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, and Beyoncé.
Chaka Khan Gets Candid
As the interview progressed, her song “Sweet Thing” in which she collaborated with fellow singer Rufus was brought up. Mary J. Blige released a cover of the song and put it on her album What’s The 411?
“She fucked it up,” The “Keep Your Head Up” artist said, adding that Blige’s vocals were flat.
“If you were out smoking crack all night, that is something different,” Chaka Khan said.
However, she clarified that she and the My Life.. artist have a close relationship and felt comfortable saying such things.
When asked what she thought of Mariah Carey ranking at number five, she added a colorful “f*ck yeah” of approval but accused Carey of using payola. The Epiphany artist was also asked if they were on good terms, and Chaka Khan simply replied, “nope.”
Beyoncé was ranked number eight on the list; however, the Hello Happiness artist did not have too much to say about the “1+1” singer. However, she noted that “she is a great singer” and has what it takes.
