Akai has introduced two new additions to its iconic MPC lineup, catering to producers who prefer a tactile, hardware-first approach to music creation. The MPC One G2 and MPC Key 37 G2 are designed as comprehensive, standalone systems, allowing users to sample, sequence, arrange, and mix without the need for a computer.

Both units feature significant internal upgrades, including an 8-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. According to Akai, these specifications provide four times the processing power of the previous generation, enabling support for up to 32 plugin instruments and 16 stereo audio tracks in standalone mode. The devices run on the updated MPC3 operating system, which emphasizes a modern, track-based workflow and a full Linear Arranger.

The MPC One G2 serves as the primary pad-based controller, featuring 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB pads, four Q-Link knobs, and a comprehensive suite of I/O options including MIDI, CV/Gate, SD card storage, and USB-C connectivity. Its aesthetic is a nod to classic Akai hardware, finished in a signature blue reminiscent of the MPC4000 and MPC1000.

For those focused on melodic composition, the MPC Key 37 G2 offers 37 synth-action keys with aftertouch, alongside pitch and mod wheels. It maintains the same robust connectivity as the One G2, including stereo inputs and outputs, and features a cream colorway inspired by Akai’s late-’80s era.

Both models support advanced features such as USB-C audio streaming, Ableton Live Control Mode, and project import/export capabilities. They also include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, with the ability to sample directly from external devices. Each unit ships with over 20GB of sounds, including the Native Instruments Analog Dreams MPC Edition. The MPC One G2 is priced at $799, while the MPC Key 37 G2 is available for $999.
