Yung Lean (Jonatan Leandoer) delivers a fearsome performance in “STORM,” the latest double-single and music video from the multidisciplinary duo GENER8ION, comprised of DJ Surkin and director Romain Gavras.
In the visual for “STORM,” Leandoer embodies a brutish bully within the confines of an all-boys British boarding school. His character engages in a series of disruptive hijinks, ranging from the dismantling of public infrastructure to the establishment of a clandestine fight club. The Swedish rapper portrays this role with a palpable sense of menace, commitment, and moxie.
The project shifts gears with the second half of the release, “STORM II.” Here, the music and film take an ecstatic turn. Accompanied by sweeping strings and piano, Leandoer calls for unity and revolution, singing, “We stay united through the storm.” The accompanying visuals feature the schoolboys performing a hypnotic, high-energy dance on the school steps, with choreography by Damien Jalet that evokes the reveling dance seen in the 2025 film The Testament of Ann Lee.
GENER8ION, the collaborative project between Surkin and Gavras, first gained significant attention four years ago with “Neo Surf,” which featured 070 Shake. Surkin, a key figure in the French Touch 2.0 electronic scene, joins forces with Gavras, a director renowned for his work with artists such as Justice and Ye and Jäy Z.
Leandoer’s performance in “STORM” serves as a compelling preview of his burgeoning film career. He is set to appear alongside Charli XCX, Chris Evans, and Anya Taylor-Joy in Sacrifice, a film centered on a high-stakes charity gala disrupted by radicals. While the film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, distribution details remain forthcoming. For now, “STORM” stands as a testament to Leandoer’s evolving theatrical presence.
