Kendrick Lamar’s custom titanium and pavé diamond crown that he wore on his fifth album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, was the product of a collaboration between the rapper, longtime creative collaborator Dave Free, and the jeweler Tiffany & Co.
Variety had reported that the crown, quoting “Free,” means “a godly representation of hood philosophies told from a digestible youthful lens.”
This past Monday, Tiffany and Co. shared on Twitter that the crown took ten months to design.
The headpiece is made up of 8,000 cobblestone micro pavé diamonds– totaling more than 137 carats.
In addition, the crown required more than 1,300 hours of work by four craftsmen to handset the diamonds.
Tiffany & Co also posted a video on their Youtube to share the special craftsmanship that went into customizing the crown.
