Keke Palmer Announces ‘I Love Boosters’ Soundtrack EP

New music from Keke Palmer is officially on the horizon. The multi-talented artist and actress is set to contribute a five-track EP to the soundtrack of Boots Riley’s highly anticipated film, I Love Boosters, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22. In addition to her starring role in the project, Palmer has curated a collection of songs that will be released on May 1 via Lakeshore Records.

The rollout begins with the lead single, “2-D,” which arrives at midnight. The track was co-written with Alina Kanin—the daughter of Boots Riley—and produced by the director himself. According to early reports, “2-D” serves as a pivotal musical moment within the film and stands out as one of the most infectious compositions on the project. Palmer previously offered audiences a preview of the soundtrack during the film’s premiere at SXSW.

A Collaborative Vision

The upcoming EP represents a deep creative collaboration between Palmer and Kanin, who worked together on every track featured on the release. The project also functions as an extension of the ongoing partnership between Riley and the experimental duo Tune Yards, consisting of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner, who were responsible for the film’s overall score.

I Love Boosters marks a significant return for Boots Riley, serving as his first directorial effort since the critically acclaimed 2018 film Sorry To Bother You. The star-studded cast includes Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Lakeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore. The narrative follows a group of shoplifters who find themselves entangled with a “cutthroat fashion maven,” promising to explore the director’s signature themes of class, labor, capitalism, and identity.
