Something is fascinating about celebrities who knew each other before their fame. In the entertainment industry, it’s not uncommon for childhood friendships to lead to collaborations.

H.E.R. & Kehlani

According to singer and songwriter, H.E.R., she and fellow singer, Kehlani, were in a group together in the Bay area when they were younger. Actress/ singer, Zendaya was also set to become a member but never did.

Zendaya and  Kehlani were also childhood friends. They grew up together in Oakland, Calif., and also sang together. In fact, the Euphoria star was almost in a band with Kehlani and H.E.R., but it never came to fruition.  

The Spiderman 3: No Way Home actress supported her best friend during her pregnancy. The SweetSexySavage artist took the time to post photos with messages of love and appreciation.

Lizzo & SZA

Lizzo has always expressed how much she adores fellow singer, SZA. The two are actually close friends.

 “I can go over [to her place] and sit in my underwear and like, randomly talk about whatever,” the SOS singer even said in an interview with POPSUGAR.

The friendship between the two artists spans over the course of almost 10 years. For the “Kill Bill” singer’s 32nd birthday the “About Damn Time” artist posted a photo of the two from 2014.

Destiny’s Child

The R&B supergroup, Destiny’s Child, was formed in Houston under the guidance of Matthew Knowles, father of now superstar Beyoncé.

The original members of the group all knew each other from school and their neighborhood. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Letoya Luckett all auditioned to be in the group but also knew each other prior to the group’s formation.

Dr. Dre & Ice Cube

Producer, rapper, and entrepreneur, Dr. Dre, and rapper/ actor, Ice Cube, both grew up in the same neighborhood in Los Angeles and even got their start in the legendary rap group N.W.A (N*ggas With Attitude). The Friday actor even sent his best wishes once the Beats by Dre mogul was hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm in Jan. of 2021. 

Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff

Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff are childhood best friends that grew up in West Philadelphia. The two formed the hip-hop duo Dj Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in 1984 and released songs like “Parents Just Don’t Understand, ” “Girls Ain’t Nothin’ But Trouble,” and “Summertime.” The duo even starred in the 90’s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1990 which lasted 6 seasons. 

Jada Pinkett Smith & Tupac Shakur

The Low Down Dirty Shame actress said in an interview with Howard Stern that she knew the All Eyez On Me rapper in high school. The two entertainers both went to the Baltimore School of the Arts in the 1980s. 

They both had a close friendship and Smith said in the interview that if they were to pursue a sexual relationship they would have “killed each other” because they were passionate.
