North West continues to carve out a distinct lane in the music industry, distancing her sound from the legacy of her father to embrace the experimental textures of the contemporary SoundCloud scene. Ahead of her debut EP north4ever, arriving this Friday, she has teamed up with Edward Skeletrix for the new single “Let’s Have Some Fun.” The track arrives alongside a music video that serves as a visual showcase for a new generation of artists, featuring cameos from Sophia Stel, Sotce, Feng, Baby Osama, and Jackzebra.
Skeletrix, a Florida-born artist known for his eerie, off-kilter production, has also confirmed that his upcoming album Body of Work—also dropping this Friday—will feature a diverse lineup including North West, Slime Dollaz, MOWALOLA, and Pol Taburet. The project even includes a posthumous collaboration with XXXTENTACION, produced by Skeletrix under his former alias, cight.
The collaboration between the two artists feels like a calculated departure from the rage and digicore sounds North West has previously explored. On “Let’s Have Some Fun,” the production leans into what could be described as “ambient gabber,” providing a pulsing, hypnotic backdrop for North’s verses. Her delivery remains casual and self-assured, touching on themes of industry dominance and the relentless pace of her creative life.
This release follows North’s recent partnership with gamma. and her production work on skaiwater’s wonderful. As she prepares for her EP release, her work with Skeletrix highlights a willingness to experiment with darker, more atmospheric soundscapes.
The music video features a wide array of talent, including Sophia Stel, Lucy Bedroque, Sotce, Feng, Jackzebra, Haskell, Baby Osama, Olivia Sade, Quannic, Chris Heyn, Yuke, Nami, Cavitnak, Brent McKeever, Emwell, 42ceo, Diddybop, Joeyy, and Harley Chamandy.
