News of the tragedy in Buffalo, NY spread on social media this weekend. Shooter, Payton Gendron, has been charged with murder in the attack Saturday that police say was “racially motivated.” Eleven of the 13 victims were Black. Gendron live-streamed the slaughter and in the horrible footage he is seen apologizing to white patrons and methodically murdering on the basis of skin color alone.

DC Young Fly posted the video of this occurring and it was mysteriously taken down by Instagram. The comedian was very upset by the incriminating video being deleted and expressed his displeasure with the social media platform.

“They don’t want this type of news to get out painting THE TRUE COLORS OF WHITE SUPREMACY!!!!!! Yall better wake up …. Hey IG this is news to the Black Community we need to be informed there is a war against us.!!!! WHY WE CANT TELL OUR PEOPLE??????social media is a filibuster watch the news watch wats being put out and being taken downnn PAY ATTENTION People!!!!! Fans on social media were also very suspicious of Instagram for taking down a video that proved that the murders in Buffalo were racially motivated and thus a hate crime. Many took to Instagram to let the world know how they felt and that they supported DC Young Fly. A user identified as @gfmbryyce had an interesting solution to the issue of control and free speech he wrote, “We have to create our own platforms to control our narrative”. Another user on Instagram identified as @marty_baller was not letting them off the hook with his comment he wrote, “We saw it can’t erase that”.

Cultural Representatives

DC Young Fly is the latest from the culture to speak out on injustice from dominant forces in society. Last week Summer Walker and rapper T.I. both spoke out on racial disparities of the reluctance in the government’s decision to prosecute RICO charges against the KKK.
