New York rapper Cardi B doesn’t want any problems especially with religious groups. The hip-hop star has come forward to address backlash she’s received following the launch of her new Reebok sneaker launch.
Cardi B Addresses Reebok Backlash
The hip-hop heavyweight took to her Instagram page to keep things a buck. Instead of clapping back, Cardi provided context behind the motivation behind her sports apparel campaign and denied having any ill will directed at any religions.
“Sorry guys, I didn’t meant to offend or disrespect anybody’s culture. I can’t change the [past] but I’ll be more cautious for the future. Love you guys.” -Cardi B’s Instagram
The drama ultimately centered on Cardi embodying Goddess Durga in a Georges Hobeika gown as part of her Reebok release promotion. However, social media took offense and went directly at her head.
The rapper-actor graced the cover of Footwear News, where she holds a pair of bright red sneakers in her hands. Similar to many depictions of Hindu gods and goddesses, are multiple arms behind her in the image. Social media users noted that to take this religious motif for an advertisement is a case of cultural appropriation. Some even objected to Cardi’s outfit. (Firstpost)
