January 2023: Jury Selection + Defense Wants Renowned Gang Expert To Testify
1 Pleads Guilty; 2 On Their Way To Trial
According to Local 10 News, shortly after a lunch break, jury selection began as the judge and attorneys geared up to discuss the fate of the three defendants, Dedrick Williams (26), Trayvon Newsome (24), Robert Allen (26), who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and Michael Boatwright (28).
Authorities stated XXXTentacion was leaving Riva Motorsports with a friend when his BMW was blocked by an SUV. Two masked gunmen then approached the driver’s window, where one shot XXX and grabbed the late rapper’s Louis Vuitton bag containing $50K before speeding away.
Boatwright is accused of pulling the trigger, resulting in the rapper’s death.
Judge Rules On Gang Expert
XXXTentacion’s murder trial is expected to commence this month and last into March. Just before jury selection, the defense attempted to have Jesse De La Cruz, a former gang leader and convicted felon, testify.
De La Cruz, who was initiated at 13, was a member of two street gangs prior to changing his life and earning a doctorate on how gangs exert social control in communities. “The gangs you have in Florida, that are like the Crips or the Bloods, are originally from California, so they have the same characteristics, the same nuances, as the ones over there,” De La Cruz said.
In response, the judge later ruled that the gang expert would not be allowed.
December 2022: Witnesses In XXXTentacion’s Murder Trial
Rapper Drake and five other rappers have been named as witnesses in the murder case of the late Florida rapper XXXTentacion. The rappers on the witness list include chart-topping rapper Drake, with whom X had an ongoing feud—and several others, including Chicago rapper 600 Breezy, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and Migos members: Quavo, Offset and the late Takeoff, who passed away in November.
June 2018: XXXTentacion’s Release From Jail + His Tragic Passing
The “HOPE” rapper was fatally shot in an apparent robbery while leaving a motorsports dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida. XXXTentacion’s career was marked by controversy and legal issues.
X’s death sent shockwaves through the music industry, and fans and fellow musicians mourned him. His death is still being investigated, and no arrests were made in connection with the shooting.
March 2018: Chart Topper On House Arrest
X was released from jail on house arrest, but the charges were not dropped, and he was still facing trial at the time of his death.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, XXXTentacion was a successful artist, with his album, ?, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart in March 2018. The certified Diamond artist was known for his emotive and introspective music, which often addressed themes of depression, suicide, and abuse.
December 2017: XXXTentacion Behind Bars
Reports claimed the late artist was currently behind bars for violating a bail bond in a domestic violence case. According to reports, On December 15, law enforcement put XXX behind bars and hit him with new charges.
November 2017: The Migos Beef
No Smoke!
The late Florida rapper had no smoke with late Migos member Takeoff. The hip-hop artist addressed his publicized rap feud with the hip-hop trio.
A screenshot also surfaced of X extending his hand to Takeoff and apologizing amid the dicey dispute.
Not Backing Down
However, XXXTentacion wasn’t ready to let his beef with the Migos fade to black. The late artist once again lit up social media to address the overnight feud.
On November 14, X took to his Instagram and posted clips and photos to troll Migos.
Migos Jumped XXXTentacion?
During that same week, the “SAD” rapper continued trolling the Migos and refused to bite his tongue. X publicly called out Migos after suffering a physical beatdown allegedly at the hands of the Atlanta trio.
On November 13th, XXX took to social media Monday and called them out for jumping him in California. On the same day, XXX wasn’t done going in on the Migos. He jumped on Instagram with footage from the attack and a personal message to Migos group member Offset’s fiancée Cardi B.
In addition, XXX hit up Instagram to change his avatar to troll one of the Migos group members and also took credit for them not landing in handcuffs after allegedly assaulting him.
October 2017: Trouble With His Label
XXXTentacion may have not been ready to sign on a record label’s dotted line after all. A new report claimed X was still on Capitol Records’ roster after claiming he was a “free agent.”
According to an XXX representative, there was no truth to him having a currently open contract.
Meanwhile, the “SAD!” artist was ready to sign on the dotted line – for the right price. The Florida native reportedly offered his service to the right record label. A screenshot later surfaced of XXX revealing he’s down to partner up if an appropriate bidder reaches out to him.
Speculation also developed over the then-rap rookie allegedly ditching a multi-million dollar Capitol Records contract. Another screenshot surfaced of XXX making the big – and shocking – announcement to his social media following.
October 2016: Domestic Violence Charges
X was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering.
In addition to his legal troubles, XXXTentacion was involved in several physical altercations, including a fight with a fan at a concert in Utah and an attack on a fellow rapper in Miami.
