Savage In Limbo

21 Savage‘s immigration status continues to be in question due to the current case he is facing in Atlanta’s DeKalb County. Savage’s lawyer Charles Kuck spoke to TMZ about his client’s case.

Kuck said:

“Here’s the crazy part – the DeKalb district attorney didn’t even formally charge him with possession of a controlled substance and firearm until January of this year.

Think about it, a whole worldwide pandemic came and went before that much happened, and as a result, he’s still in limbo as to where he’ll be living.

However, the “No Debate” rapper is still on schedule to perform at Coachella and the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Both events are billed to hold in June.

21 Savage was originally born in the United Kingdom but had lived in Atlanta since the age of 7.

21’s History With ICE

21 Savage was taken into custody by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Georgia back in February 2019.  According to reports, ICE took down the hip-hop heavyweight for allegedly overstaying a visa.

Sav didn’t hold back on discussing his situation and recalling his bust in a “Good Morning America” interview, explaining,

I don’t even know what happened. I was just driving and I just seen guns and blue lights, and then I was in the back of a car and I was gone. They didn’t say nothing. They just said, ‘We got Savage.’ It was definitely targeted. …. I didn’t know what a visa was. I was seven when I first came here. I didn’t know what that meant as far as when I transferred into an adult, how that was going to affect my life. I wasn’t hiding it, but I didn’t wanna get deported, so I’m not gonna come out and be like, ‘Hey, by the way, I wasn’t born here.

21’s Immigration Case Delayed Multiple Times

21 Savage has experienced delay after delay in this in his publicized immigration case. Back in 2019, the rap star’s deportation hearing was postponed due to scheduling issues at the courts.  Kuck said Sav’s court appearance did not hold due to administrative issues. He said the courts didn’t “have enough non-detained judges” so his case had to wait to be assigned.
