With her seventh studio album eternal sunshine scheduled to arrive in three weeks’ time, Ariana Grande has shared a new version of the project’s January lead single, “yes, and?” The remix, out now via Republic, features a guest verse from living legend Mariah Carey.

When Ariana Grande first burst into stardom in the mid aughts, her four-octave vocal range and penchant for pitch-perfect melismatic runs led a flock of critics to compare her to Carey, who apparently wasn’t pleased with the association at the time. The two had reconciled by 2020, when Grande, along with Jennifer Hudson, joined Carey for a 10th-anniversary remix of “Oh Santa!” By returning the favor, as Stereogum notes, Carey could achieve her thus-far-elusive goal of tying The Beatles’ longtime record for most No. 1 hits (20). The original “yes, and?” debuted atop the Hot 100 last month but only stayed there for a week, falling out of the top 10 last week and currently sitting at No. 21.

“There truly are no words that suffice. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this dream come true and for sprinkling your brilliance and magic on my little song,” Grande wrote to Carey in an Instagram post. “It means more to me than i could ever possibly articulate and I cannot wait for everyone to hear this! I love you eternally.”
