In a recent feature for GQ’s special issue celebrating 30 years of his career, hip-hop mogul JAŸ-Z opened up about the origins of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. The Independent Path
JAŸ-Z highlighted the struggle of his early days, noting that the lack of interest from major labels actually served as a catalyst for his success. “That first album and not getting the deal was the biggest blessing to me,” he shared. Without a label partner, he and Damon Dash utilized a grassroots, street-level approach to distribution. “On the streets we were platinum. Anywhere you was going to go, you was going to hear ‘Reasonable Doubt,’” he recalled.
Anniversary Celebrations
The conversation also touched upon his upcoming milestone performances at Yankee Stadium. On July 10, 2026, he will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt, followed by a 25th-anniversary celebration of The Blueprint on July 11. Demand for these shows has been immense, with reports indicating that ticket resale prices have soared to over $12,000.
