Xaviersobased and OsamaSon are two of the rap underground’s most closely watched figures. Xav has had a huge influence on the post-jerk and ambient waves, while OsamaSon continues to draw massive festival crowds for his blistering take on rage. There’s a lot of mutual respect — OsamaSon even paid homage in a recent episode of The FADER’s Would You Rather? — and the two have teamed up periodically over the past year and a bit. On Sunday, they dropped their first-ever collaborative project, the four-track EP BASEDSLiME.
The new release, hosted by DJ Rennessy, shares two older tracks, “lil o just popped a pill” and “not a regular civilian.” The other two songs are brand new: “whole lotta,” a space age take on classic Atlanta trap, and “Shitshow.” Given that “Shitshow” is produced by ok, who handled most of OsamaSon’s excellent recent project JumpOut, it’s not a surprise that it sounds like a song that could have appeared on that project’s deluxe edition, with its blown-out electronics that hit like Chrome Hearts brass knuckles. You can hear it in the music video streaming above, seemingly shot at the studio in the middle of a party, or on the full EP below.
