Music’s biggest night is just around the corner and the Recording Academy have finally announced some details of what we can expect from this year’s ceremony. Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Doechii, and more are just a selection of the artists who will be gracing the stage come Sunday evening on February 2. Shakira, and more unannounced artists, will also perform.
Based off the performance slate so far it’s gearing up to be another momentous night for women, something that’s mirrored in the nominations. Beyonce leads with 11 nods for Cowboy Carter; Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone follow with a four-way tie of seven nominations each. The Best New Artist category will be one of the most competitive of the night with Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Doechii all coming in as favorites to win.
This year’s ceremony kicks off promptly at 8 p.m. ET with Trevor Noah as host — his fifth year in the job. The award show has experienced a rocky few weeks leading up to the ceremony as several pre-Grammy events were cancelled due to the raging wildfires in Los Angeles, something Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. acknowledged in a statement. “The upcoming Grammy Awards won’t just be about celebrating and honoring the best in music this year. They will also show how the power of music can help rebuild, uplift and support those in need,” he said.
