It seems like New York rap icon JAY-Z might be the jealous type. Reggae superstar Sean Paul recently talked about his unforgettable “Baby Boy” collaboration with Young Hov’s then-girlfriend, now-wife Beyoncé and revealed a shocker about the music icon’s attitude toward him.
Sean Paul Says JAY-Z Got Jealous
In an interview, Sean Paul said JAY-Z was jealous over their 2003 collaboration. He spoke about why he rarely performed the track with her live, chalking it up to Hov not wanting him around his then-bae.
The Temperature artiste was speaking with radio announcer Wesley “Burgerman” Burger in an interview on the Two Live Crew program on Radio Jamaica on Thursday when the host brought up the subject midway through the discussion. Burger told Sean Paul, “One a di time when Baby Boy did come out, mi did vex yuh nuh, caw mi a seh a wha happen to dem people deh ova suh? Like dem nuh rate our artiste, you know dah likkle video suppm deh. Mi neva feel good bout it enuh, but mi a seh, mi like how di General (Sean Paul) deal wid it though.” “Yuh si weh you seh? You neva feel comfortable. Me neva feel comfortable needa, but mi jus use my diplomacy all di while an guh roun any likkle obstacle weh me have inna life,” Sean Paul responded. (Dancehall Mag)
Paul took things a step further and suggested JAY didn’t like the idea of other – presumably men – around his eventual wife.
“To me, dat man (Jay-Z) neva want you around dah lady deh yuh nuh,” Burgher said, to which Sean Paul responded: “Yes, to me that was something that was apparent at the time,” before adding: “Wi know that artistry is artistry suh a nuh everytime dem ting deh gwan.” (Dancehall Mag)
Funk Flex Goes At JAY-Z
Hot 97 radio veteran Funk Flex recently went at Young Hov about his insecurities. During a recent conversation, he full blown attacked the music icon and went at him for how he responds to criticism. Funk said that the reason Hov isn’t on social media is because of his sensitivity. He roasted Jay and didn’t hold back, also claiming the New York rap legend has fake social media burner accounts. Funk did, however, admit there’s no real beef toward Young Hov and promised he was telling the truth.
“You know why he’s not on social media? Because he’s the most sensitive motherf*cker on the planet and he can’t take n*ggas in his comments telling him the truth! Okay? Okay? He can’t take it. He can’t open up social media. You know what JAY does? He watches social media from a fake page. Okay? It’s not [personal] but I’m giving you the truth!”
Funk Flex Compares Drake And JAY-Z
Outside of the social media talk, Funkmaster is naming his greats. He’s put Drake up at almost the top of the list, but has spoken out about why he doesn’t get the #1 spot. In the same conversation, Funk Flex said Drake would’ve passed JAY-Z in his book if several reference tracks, songs that are used for comparison to as somebody goes along making their own track, didn’t surface years ago.
“He’s too versatile, his melodies, he has the bars, and he had the songs. If those reference tracks had never happened, Drake would have been my favorite artist of all time. He would have surpassed JAY-Z in my book. If there was no reference [tracks].”
Funk Flex Reveals 2009 Drake Freestyle Details
Funk also revealed Drizzy didn’t write his 2009 freestyle on Hot 97. The performance is now infamous due to the fact that Drake read lyrics off of his Blackberry phone at the time of the freestyle.
