Nas Finally Gets His Flowers

Following years of nominations, Nasty Nas finally secured his first-ever solo Grammy award. Nasir Jones first earned a nod dating back nearly 20 years ago.

The rapper, 47, scored his first ever Grammy win on Sunday, taking home the award for Best Rap Album for his 13th studio album, King’s Disease. Nas beat out fellow nominees D Smoke (Black Habits), Jay Electronica (A Written Testimony), Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist (Alfredo), and Royce 5’9″ (The Allegory). Nas received his first Grammy nomination in 1996 when his track, “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)” was nominated, but lost, for Best Rap Solo Performance. Nas’ nom for King’s Disease was his 14th Grammy nod. (ET Canada)

Meg Thee Stallion Wins First Grammy

Tonight, rap star Megan Thee Stallion and iconic singer Beyoncé blew away stiff competition coming from DaBaby‘s “BOP” and late rap star Pop Smoke‘s “Dior” record for Best Rap Performance. They also faced a tough face-off from Big Sean and Nipsey Hussle‘s “Deep Reverence,” Jack Harlow‘s “Whats Poppin” and Lil Baby‘s “The Bigger Picture.”

Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé won Best Rap Performance for “Savage Remix” at the Premiere Ceremony of the 63rd GRAMMY Awards. This marks Megan’s first career GRAMMY win, and she gave a joyful acceptance speech for the monumental moment. (GRAMMY)

Meg made sure to deliver a memorable acceptance speech surrounded by flowers.

“Thank you lord, God is the first person I want to thank. Oh my gosh, my grandma, thank-you nanny, for not making me not stop music to finish school. Thank you mama, for pushing me and knowing I was going to be here – I still can’t even believe this. What? Me? Thank-you Hotties! Thank-you Houston!”

The unforgettable “Savage” remix anthem dropped back in April 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Setback

Initial plans had the Grammys set to go down in February 2021. However, the global pandemic ultimately forced the awards ceremony to get rescheduled.

“After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021. The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. “
