Hip-hop superstar Megan Thee Stallion seems happy with her new Harper’s Bazaar magazine cover photo shoot — she’s been posting it all over her social media pages. In other corners of the Internet, however, there’s a debate raging about the magazine’s ability to properly capture a Black woman’s beauty.
Meg Thee Stallion’s Photos Come Under Fire
Although Megan Thee Stallion has been proudly showing off pics from her Harper’s Bazaar cover shoot, some fans don’t like how the shots came out. There’s a bigger issue at play, one that involves the fashion industry’s representation of Black women.
The images, which see the rapper embracing a minimalist, pared-down look, met with derision in some quarters. Some social media users criticised the lighting, somber mood and general aesthetic.
“Nah this ain’t it – photographer didn’t even know how to capture Megan’s skin correctly … in any of the pics,” wrote one user.
“Hopefully (she) learned a lot from this,” another commented: “If you can’t capture dark skinned women just say that.”
“Y’all clearly need a black creative director on set,” wrote another.

Megan’s Going More Natural W/ Her Makeup
For what it’s worth, Harper’s Bazaar has a Black editor-in-chief: Samira Nasr, who worked on the Megan cover shoot. And Meg actually talked in the article about how she’s been toning down her makeup lately.
“I’m realizing that I don’t have to be in full glam every time you see me, because I’m just getting more comfortable with myself and more comfortable with my skin,” she says. “I know that I’m a person that everybody looks to, and they’re like, ‘Oh, Megan, she’s a confident woman. She’s so strong.’ But you have to go through things to become that person.”
There’s A New Man In Meg’s Life
The original “Hot Girl” seems to be head over heels for a new love interest. The “WAP” star couldn’t help complimenting fellow rapper and rumored boyfriend Pardison Fontaine during an Instagram Live session.
Meg Thee Stallion Getting Close To Graduation
If you didn’t know, the rap superstar is a student at Texas Southern University, where she’s pursuing a degree in health administration. She’s on track to graduate from the HBCU in the fall of 2021 and plans to open an assisted-living facility.
