Malia Obama, the oldest daughter of former President Barack Obama, will make her directorial debut for a short film by Donald Glover’s production company, Gilga.
In an interview with GQ, Glover shared that he also warned Malia about making films as a child of a former president.
“The first thing we did was talk about the fact that she will only get to do this once, “ Glover said. “You’re Obama’s daughter. So if you make a bad film, it will follow you around. “
Malia studied Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University, which led to her interest in television and film-making.
If she were to do so, Malia could also make history of her own by becoming the first child of a former president to direct a major film
Malia and Glover have worked together before. She wrote for Glover’s former hit show Atlanta and was also a writer for the episode of “Girl, Bye” from Glover’s new Amazon series Swarm, where Glover also previewed new music.
At the time of press, the name of the film or a release date had not been confirmed.
