It’s only two days into Pride Month and Lil Nas X took to Twitter to vent his frustrations about being snubbed by BET for two years in a row after the list of BET Award nominations was announced Wednesday morning (June 1).

The “Industry Baby” rapper criticized the network in a series of scathing, now-deleted tweets for leaving him out of the nominations despite the success of his debut album “Montero,” being nominated for five Grammy Awards.

“Thank you BET awards. an outstanding zero nominations again,” he wrote, adding an ironic “black excellence!” at the end of the tweet.

When a critic responded to the rapper in a condescending manner, asking what he had put out to be considered worthy of a nomination, Nas quote tweeted, “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album. i feel like that should’ve helped me a bit.”

Another person tried to claim that he did not fit in within the awards show, claiming that his sound was too far removed from hip-hop. Nas rebutted this statement, “they have a pop category.”

He finished the series of tweets with, “i just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”

This is not the first time that BET has been criticized for snubbing a Black queer artist. Saucy Santana, responsible for the infamous “Material Girl” that has gone viral since its 2020 release, was snubbed for “Best New Artist” as well.
