Today is Dreamville-leading rapper J. Cole’s birthday, and his career has included hit singles as a rapper and producer. Here are five songs fans may not know the Cole World artist produced or co-produced:
“Work Out” By J.Cole
J. Cole’s 2011 hit “Work Out” was on his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. This track uses a sample from Kanye West’s 2004 song “The New Workout Plan” from his highly praised album, The College Dropout.
In the past, J. Cole shared Kanye was one of his biggest influences.
“HiiiPower” By Kendrick Lamar
West Coast rap star Kendrick Lamar’s debut single on his debut album, 2011’s Section.80, was produced by J. Cole early in his career before his debut dropped. The fast-paced beat has Kendrick rapping bars that have been labeled as conscious.
“No Sleep” By Janet Jackson ft. J. Cole
R&B legend Janet Jackson teamed up with J. Cole on her 2015 song “No Sleep” from her album, Unbreakable. J.Cole collaborated with the legendary producing duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, along with Janet also producing.
The song is about Janet’s love interest after a romantic night, with J. Cole rapping as the feature.
“Tribe” by Bas ft. J.Cole
Dreamville labelmate Bas had J.Cole hop on the beat in two ways with his 2018 song “Tribe” from his album, Milky Way. J. Cole produced the track along with rapper/producer Childish Major.
Bas has also been featured with J. Cole for his verse, where he was a character for the video game NBA 2K23.
R.N.P. by Cordae ft. Anderson. Paak
J. Cole handled the production for the song “R.N.P.,” on DMV rapper Cordae’s 2019 debut album, The Lost Boy. The acronym stands for “Rich N*gga Problems.”
The song features singer/rapper Anderson .Paak, who is also the feature for Cordae’s new single “Two Tens,” which J. Cole produced as well.
J. Cole Released A New Single Using A Youtube Producer’s “J.Cole Type Beat”
Recently, Dreamville rapper J. Cole released a song called “Procrastination (Broke)” on a “J.Cole type beat” by producer Bvtman. Bvtman, who works with Beatstars claimed Dreamville president Ibrahim Hamad texted him and said J.Cole rapped on the beat by searching “J.Cole type beat” on YouTube.
