Iceage Announce New Album ‘For Love of Grace & the Hereafter’

A New Chapter for Iceage

After nearly two decades of shaping the landscape of modern punk, Danish quintet Iceage is returning with their sixth studio album, For Love of Grace & the Hereafter, scheduled for release on May 29. The announcement marks a significant milestone for the band, which has consistently evolved its sound from raw, abrasive punk to a more nuanced, literary form of indie rock.

The band has offered an initial glimpse into the project with the release of the album opener, “Ember.” The track features a signature deadpan vocal delivery from frontman Elias Rønnenfelt, set against a revved-up, driving instrumental backdrop. With the haunting refrain, “I love you in an ominous way,” the song perfectly encapsulates the band’s enduring ability to balance tenderness with a sharp, jagged edge.

The Evolution of a Quintet

Comprised of Elias Rønnenfelt, guitarist Johan Suurballe Wieth, drummer Dan Kjær Nielsen, guitarist Casper Morilla Fernandez, and bassist Jakob Tvilling Pless, Iceage has spent 18 years refining their craft. Their progression from their early, chaotic roots to the sophisticated arrangements found on their recent work has solidified their status as one of the most vital acts in contemporary rock.

Rønnenfelt, in particular, has maintained a prolific output outside of the band. His recent solo endeavors and collaborations—including 2024’s Heavy Glory and his work with Dean Blunt on lucre and Speak Daggers—have only served to sharpen his songwriting, bringing a new level of depth to the upcoming Iceage record.
