From one week to the next, it’s hard to tell if Cardi B and Offset are hip-hop’s answer to Gabby and D-Wade, Gina and Martin, or Whitney and Bobby.
Sometimes, the New York rapper/model Cardi and her husband, Atlanta rapper Offset, are marriage goals. Sometimes, they’re the couple that’s obviously in love but might need a date night or two to remember why. And sometimes, they’re a toxic twosome that just might be better off without each other.
Since getting married in 2017, rap’s power couple has been separated a few times. Most recently was this past September, when Cardi B actually filed for divorce before the two made up and got back together. As recently as Halloween, they were being all sweet to each other like nothing was wrong.
It can be hard to keep up on what’s real and what’s rumor with any celebrity couple, and Cardi B and Offset are no different. Here are some things you might not know about their union.
1. Cardi B + Offset Got Married Within A Year Of Dating
As far as the public knows, Cardi B and Offset began dating in early-2017. This was before Cardi’s rap career really blew up; she was still best known for her stint on “Love & Hip-Hop.” Offset, one-third of the Grammy-nominated group Migos, had collaborated with Cardi on her song “Lick.” They went public with the relationship in February 2017, and they were married on September 20, 2017. (When Offset publicly proposed to Cardi in October, they were already married at the time.)

Cardi B and Offset welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Kulture, born in July 2018. She is Cardi’s first child, but Offset has three other kids from previous relationships: sons Jordan and Kody and daughter Kalea.

Some artists like to keep whatever parts of their private lives private that they can, but not Cardi B. For the duration of their marriage, she hasn’t been shy about rapping about her sex life with Offset. From her 2017 song “Bartier Cardi” when she said, “Cardi put the p**** on Offset / Cartier, Cardi B brain on Offset,” to her 2020 song “WAP” when she said, “I don’t cook, I don’t clean / but let me tell you how I got this ring.”
4. (Alleged) Cheating Has Constantly Been An Issue
Within a few months of their wedding, Offset was first accused of infidelity after his phone was hacked and photos were found of another woman. Since then, there’s been a constant stream of rumors — along with some real stories — about Offset cheating, Cardi B fighting women that Offset cheated with, Cardi B issuing low-key threats to Offset if he doesn’t stop cheating, etc. One incident led to Cardi being charged with assault.
5. Cardi B + Offset Have Broken Up At Least Twice Since Getting Married
In early-December 2018, when their daughter Kulture was just about six months old, Cardi B went on Instagram to announce she and Offset were off. “Things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time,” she said. To no one’s surprise, Offset’s infidelity was believed to be at the root of the split. After some very public romantic gestures — like bringing a bouquet of roses on-stage during one of Cardi B’s concerts — they got back together by late-December 2018. In September 2020, Cardi B filed for divorce. Going once again to Instagram, Cardi explains, “Nothing crazy out of this world happened, sometimes people really do grow apart.” About a month later, husband and wife reconciled.
