Just in time for the inaugural weekend of 2024, Veeze has dropped his first single of the year, “WORST.” Available only in video form via Gallery Provence on Youtube (above) and Apple Music (below) for now, it’s two minutes of pure heat. But, like all of the Detroit native’s best work, it sounds tossed off with the nonchalance of a Wayne freestyle circa 2009.
Bars such as “It’s crazy, I ain’t got her number, but I got her naked / I don’t know who to vote for, but I got all these damn presidents” and “She a bad bitch, she might make me go trickin’ / Even though she fuck n***a free, GloRilla” are delivered so casually — and within a single, cascading rhyme scheme — they’ll slip past the passive observer. Veeze’s music is fun to throw on in any situation, but it’s most rewarding if you listen closely.
Gallery Provence’s 3D-animated visuals give “WORST” a tongue-in-cheek sense of unreality as Veeze flexes in a field of daisies, the backyard of a haunted house, a corner office, the bathroom of the Shelter from 8 Mile, the top of a mountain, space, Hell, and elsewhere.
In October, Veeze released the deluxe addition of his debut studio LP, Ganger, one of The FADER’s favorite albums of 2023. For more on the intensive process behind his effortless-sounding raps, read Brandon Callender’s Veeze FADER cover story.
