SZA finally has a release date for Lana. The new project, which is essentially the long-awaited deluxe edition of her 2022 album SOS, will be out this Friday, December 20. In a clip shared on Monday, Ben Stiller lip-syncs to a preview of the new song “Drive,” which will feature on Lana. Check that out below.
Ben Stiller and SZA have became unlikely social media friends this year after she begged the actor-director for a second season of his hit show Severance. The Apple TV+ thriller returns in January.
SZA has been teasing the arrival of Lana for many months, at one point suggesting it was a “whole other album” to the SOS deluxe release. That doesn’t seem to be the case but the point is that fans will have a bunch of new SZA music to listen to over the holidays and into 2025.
Speaking to British Vogue earlier this year, SZA explained how her creative process has changed since she dropped her previous album. “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place, versus a more angsty place” she said. “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s shit that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”
SZA also appears on two songs on Kendrick Lamar‘s latest album, GNX. She will go on tour with her former TDE label mate in 2025, joining him on his Grand National tour from April.
