Jennie & Doechii’s “ExtraL” collab was manifested

You might consider Jennie and Doechii’s newest collab “ExtraL” a shining example of one popular axiom: that moment when you, a queen, come across another queen, and discuss how best to maximize your joint slay. That meme’s overuse (and perhaps, outdatedness) aside, it actually might harbor a granule of truth to the real story behind the two pop star’s bombastic new song. According to Jennie, she’d been manifesting working with Doechii for a long time, perhaps since they first came across each other at Camp Flog Gnaw in 2024.

In a recent interview with Hits Radio, the BLACKPINK star revealed that she’d intentionally pursued Doechii as a potential guest feature, who she called “too great.” “I knew what I wanted, so I’ve been manifesting it for the longest time,” she said. “It takes time and things need to really work out and coordinate together for a song to work out, and it magically did.”

The seed might’ve been planted at Camp Flog Gnaw in 2024, where they snapped a pic together backstage during the weekend Jennie was there to perform as a special guest during Matt Champion’s set.

Whatever happened in between brings us to “ExtraL,” out today, the fruit of that labor. The track, with its thumping, festival-ready beat, is a vessel for Jennie’s rapper identity to really shine alongside Doechii as they rap about riding in foreign cars and shout lines like, “Do my, do my ladies run this, ladies run this?”

But really, their synchronicity is best highlighted in the Cole Bennett-directed music video, which finds them dancing in chic work-wear, leaning and posing against each other as two halves of a more powerful whole. The collab might’ve been manifested, but their chemistry is god-given.
