Japanese Breakfast‘s fourth album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), will be released on March 21 via Dead Oceans. Michelle Zauner and her band have today released the first single from the album and confirmed details of a headline North American and European tour. Scroll down to hear “Orlando In Love” now.
For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) is described as Japanese Breakfast’s first proper studio release, with Zauner having recorded her previous work in more DIY settings. Blake Mills, known for his work with Feist and Perfume Genius among others, produced the album
The new album is Zauner’s follow-up to 2021’s Jubilee and the first release since her memoir, Crying In H Mart, became a best-seller. The success of that book, which is being adapted into an upcoming movie, provides the backdrop to which For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) was made. “I felt seduced by getting what I always wanted,” Zauner says in a statement. “I was flying too close to the sun, and I realized if I kept going I was going to die.”
Japanese Breakfast will tour in support of For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), starting at Coachella in April before embarking on a series of headline shows across North America and Europe. Tickets for the Melancholy Tour are available on pre-sale from January 8, with the general on-sale starting on January 10 at 10 a.m. local time. Full date and venue details can be found below.
