In July 2025, Doja Cat appeared on the cover of V Magazine, where she spoke about the ’80s influence on the sound of her upcoming new album, Vie. “I wanted to play with that nostalgia […] but it wasn’t on the nose ‘80s,” she said. “I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project. I know that I can make pop music, and pop is just that it’s popular.”
Two years since releasing her last album Scarlet, her conscious pivot to a “Rap with a capital R” sound, Doja is back in her pop pocket with Vie. The pop star’s next era officially kicked off on August 22 when she released the lead single “Jealous Type,” a wash of plush, retro-sounding beats, ahead of the record’s arrival this fall.
Here’s everything we know about album Vie, so far, ahead.
The lead single “Jealous Type”
Doja Cat’s new track “Jealous Type” was produced by Jack Antonoff and Y2K (Ariana Grande, Tate McRae). It is the first single from her new album Vie and arrives with a music video directed by Boni Mata. Doja Cat first teased “Jealous Type” in her Summer ’25 campaign with Marc Jacobs and then performed it live for the first time when she headlined the 2025 Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Doja spoke about working with Antonoff for the first time. “He’s just been such a wonderful person to work with,” she said. “It’s just been nice to play. I really played through the whole thing. I think what I wanted to do was play with my voice in ways that are a little bit less unconventional. And so I’m shrieking a little bit on this album, and that’s been a lot of fun.”
When will Doja Cat release Vie?
Vie, which means “life” in French, is Doja Cat’s fifth album and will be released on September 26. It is the follow-up to her 2023 album, Scarlet.
What has Doja Cat said about the album?
In that same Zane Lowe interview, Doja revealed that the subject of love bombing and her recent therapy sessions provided inspiration while writing on Vie.
“I had been in relationships that made me think about things in a different way, and I think naivety is a big part of this album too,” she said on Apple Music. “I speak about rushing and love bombing in a way. That’s kind of a big one. I think that’s a fun subject to sing about.
She added: “This album really grew from my sessions in therapy and being so gung-ho on being there twice a week and doing it and learning about the human experience and how our brains function subconsciously and consciously.”
Per an interview with V Magazine, Doja added that the record as a whole centers around relationships, romance, sex, and love. “This album is very much about love in a way that reflects how I want it to be in the future—my hope, my hopefulness. What I hope it could be.”
Is Doja Cat going on tour in 2025?
Yes. In addition to dropping “Jealous Type,” Doja Cat has shared the first raft of dates for her “Ma Vie” world tour.
She will kick off in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia in November into December. The tour will include stops in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Manila, Tokyo, and more, before wrapping on Sunday, December 21, in Kaohsiung at Kaohsiung Arena.
North American and European dates have not yet been announced.
