Each week, The FADER staff rounds up the songs we can’t get enough of. Here they are, in no particular order. Listen on our Spotify and Apple Music playlists, or hear them all below.
Charli xcx, “House” (ft. John Cale)
Not so much a song but an exorcism, “House,” Charli xcx’s first new release since brat is a sharp left into brutally beautiful, gothic terror. Over weeping orchestral strings, The Velvet Underground’s John Cale recites a poem like a scryer while Charli xcx’s screeches the song’s sole lyric, “I think I’m going to die in this house.” —Steffanee Wang
De La Soul, “The Package”
De La Soul have given the world a gift in the form of “Package.” It’s been nine long years since the rap veterans’ last album, and a lot has changed in that time. Most crucially, this is their first without Dave, aka Trugoy the Dove. Still, De La Soul come to us as a united front, spitting classic flows over blaring horns, ushering in a new, triumphant era. —Hajin Yoo
Lolo Zoaui, “3AM in San Francisco”
The French-born Lolo Zouaï spent a few years in the hyperpop pocket and has now returned to her siren-like R&B roots. On her latest, she hits us with her bilingual, soft-soul vocals over underwater production bringing electronic San Francisco waves with her. —Kylah Williams
This is Lorelei, “Holo Boy”
This is Lorelei originally released “Holo Boy” in 2020 as a manic cut about self-soothing your way through the end of the world. The cult singer-songwriter has revisited and rerecorded that song for a new album, an effort that inadvertently lays bare just how much he’s evolved as a singer. The shaking manic energy is gone, replaced with an even-keeled calm, even as the fears of five years ago are even closer in the foreground. —SW
DavidTheTragic & Amindi, “Evergreen”
“Grief was the price of love” is a hard-ass way to open a track. Atlanta-born upstart DavidTheTragic and first-gen Libra Amindi both denounce puppy love with the clarity that comes after a couple broken hearts. Amindi sings a “fuck you” to someone who played her while DavidTheTragic delivers a verse about hitting with a broken heart. —KW
Mackeeper, “Pieces of Yours”
With just two singles under their belt, the self-proclaimed “power music electrical revival” duo have returned with another folksy cut with medieval flair. The autumnal soundscape proves that sometimes, all you need for those leaf-crunching, PSL-munching days are heavenly vocal harmonies, guitar, and a dash of tasteful reverb. —HY
Arima Ederra, “First Time”
I almost forgot what true love felt like in today’s culture of dating. From the moment Arima Ederra begins singing, her voice ringing with serenity, I’m transported back to all the beautiful little moments that come with giving your heart to someone. —KW
dexter in the newsagent, “Did you try”
London’s newest star dexter in the newsagent makes tender, singer-songwriter confessionals about growing up that she likes to sharpen against electronic interludes. “Did you try” is an addictive example of the balance she strikes, at once emotional and effortlessly cool. —SW
UnoTheActivist, “Above The Rib”
UnoTheActivist won’t stop feeding his fans. This cocky cut from his second project of the year was once a 2023 snippet that we’ve now been blessed with in full. Uno raps in a tone you’d imagine the Grim Reaper might use if he was off a pill and feeling friendly. His flow is 2015-slimy, packed with bars like, “I keep it buck like a reindeer,” “She on my skin just like a lotion.” —KW
