The first trailer for the upcoming Wicked sequel has been revealed. The Wicked: For Good trailer features Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda reuniting after the events of the first movie. Fans also get a glimpse of Dorothy (Alisha Weir) as she visits Oz. Watch the trailer below.
The movie musical is due to arrive a year after Wicked earned record box office numbers as it grossed $755m worldwide, making it the highest-grossing musical film adaptation in history. The film earned 10 nominations at this year’s Academy Awards – including best picture – winning two (Best Costume Design and Best Production Design).
Director, Jon M Chu has spoken about the decision to split the adaptation into two movies, saying it was “impossible” to make it one release “without doing some real damage to it”. Both movies were shot and edited back to back prior to Wicked’s 2024 release.
In addition to Erivo and Grande, Wicked: For Good also stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz. The movie will be released in theaters on November 21.
