Young Meepa represents a collision of experience and expression shaped by struggle, movement, and self-determination. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, and now based on Chicago’s South Side, his music combines lived experience, political awareness, dark humor, and emotional honesty.
To begin with, the name “Meepa” itself tells a story. It traces back to the Chicago punk scene, where friends jokingly compared him to a small chick emoji. What started as a nickname stuck, and over time evolved into Young Meepa, a name now tied to one of the most uncompromising underground voices emerging today.
However, music was never the starting point for stability. Young Meepa officially left school on his 16th birthday, earning his GED the same day with scores equivalent to a four-year college degree. Soon after, life shifted again. Living as a traveling crust punk, he rode freight trains, survived on the streets, and drifted between Detroit, Bloomington, Dayton, and Chicago. Living in abandoned buildings on the city’s West Side, he battled heroin and fentanyl addiction and survived circumstances that easily could have had another outcome.
Now Young Meepa lives with his fiancé, and openly presents himself as a queer artist. Though marked by face tattoos and a hardened past, Young Meepa’s work reveals a vulnerability that challenges surface-level assumptions about him.
Musically, Young Meepa operates at the crossroads of crust punk, black metal, trap, drill, experimental rap, folk, and R&B. Influenced by N.W.A, Ghostemane, and City Morgue, he sees punk and hip-hop as intertwined worlds rather than opposing cultures.
From writing and production to engineering and performance, he controls every aspect of his music, a process he’s followed since he first started making music at age six.
His debut, MXTPE #1: birth, introduced listeners to this uncompromising world through the single “BCA (Bug Chasers Anonymous).” On MXTPE #2: misanthropy, Young Meepa pushes even further into emotional honesty. Released December 4, 2025, the project documents a life shaped by repeated harm, mistrust, and endurance. It’s aggressive by design, but beneath the chaos sits exhaustion and awareness, moments where anger gives way to reflection without losing its edge.
Looking ahead, Young Meepa is building a two-part release titled MXTPE #3: dystopia… Pt. 1 & Pt. 2.
