Racist Messages Nailed The Coffin For Ahmaud Arbery’s Killers’ Hate Crime Charge
The three men convicted of murdering Ahmaud Arbery as he ran through their neighborhood have now been found guilty of hate crime.
The alleged killers are Gregory McMichael, his son, Travis McMichael, and their neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan. Testimonies and evidence presented in court by the prosecutors confirmed that the three men acted out of a racial bias and violated a federal hate-crime statute by depriving Arbery of his right to use a public street because of the color of his skin.
Many witnesses talked about the defendants’ history of racism and using racial slurs. A former colleague told jurors that Travis McMichael, who shot and killed Arbery, called her a racist slur for dating a Black man.
Another woman testified that during a visit she made to Brunswick, Georgia, Gregory McMichael went on an angry rant about Black people.
The state of Georgia will formally memorialize Ahmaud Arbery on Feb. 23, the second anniversary of his death.
Ahmaud Arbery Killers Sentenced To Life In Prison
The three men, who were found guilty of felony murder in November in the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, received three life sentences with only one eligible for parole. Ahmuad Arbery was a Black man who was jogging through their neighborhood when they confronted him and shot him dead.
Daunte Wright’s Killer, Kim Potter, Will Serve Only 2 Years In Prison
A jury found former police officer Kim Potter guilty of first-degree and second-degree manslaughter in the deadly shooting of Daunte Wright. She is now only the third police officer to ever be found guilty on charges related to an on-duty death in the state of Minnesota.
However, she was sentenced to only two years in prison, causing outrage nationwide.
