Tyler, the Creator revealed that he re-recorded his verse on the song “P.O.V.” “79 to 100 times,” he said during a Hot 97 interview. Produced by Pharrell Williams, the song is the third track on Clipse’s fourth studio album Let God Sort Em Out, released on July 11.
“It took me about 79 to 100 times to do it, and I almost texted Pusha, ‘I don’t think this is gonna work,’” Tyler said. “It’s been a few times I’ve gotten nervous and trying to nail that verse with two of my Mount Rushmores, produced by Mount Rushmore, was like I can’t fuck this up for me.”
The process of writing and recording the feature took months, Tyler said. “It took me so long to write that and just trying to perfect it … Was really in that bitch sweating. That n—a Pusha sent me that before I went on tour, probably in April and I ain’t get him that shit until end of May, early June.”
Tyler recalled his intense relief when the album was released. “I was trying to record that verse for so long. Then it came out and people liked it,” he said. “When I did not fuck up the song, n—a, ooh.”
Let God Sort Em Out was Clipse’s first album in 16 years after Malice departed the duo in 2006. Last Monday (July 21), Tyler surprise-released his ninth studio album Don’t Tap The Glass.
