Timothée Chalamet reached for a Dylan deep cut on his SNL musical debut

Timothée Chalamet was both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend. He performed a collection of Bob Dylan songs on the show as he continues to promote A Complete Unknown, the Dylan biopic for which he earned an Oscar nomination last week.

With Chalamet having a monologue and a whole host of sketches to perform in (the aspiring comedian/barista one was pretty funny) he would have been forgiven for running through some of Dylan’s biggest hits and moving on. Credit to him, though, he chose the tougher road, diving into the archives and plucking out some lesser-known material for his performances. The actor stuck to the playbook initially, picking up his acoustic guitar and nailing his Dylan vocal impression for “Tomorrow Is a Long Time.” Then, in a reflection of A Complete Unknown‘s depiction of Dylan “going electric” in 1965, Chalamet returned with a live band and tore through a medley of “Outlaw Blues” and “Three Angels.” The latter is a relatively obscure spoken word song from 1970, with Chalamet cloaking his vocals in AutoTune and performing alongside James Blake on keys.
