This alternative Oscars Best Picture montage deserves its own award

If you saw yesterday’s Oscar nominations and felt uninspired (Emilia Pérez wtf?) then perhaps David Ehrlich can help. Every year the IndieWire critic painstakingly puts together a video montage of his favorite movies of the previous year and turns an end of year ballot into something as exciting as the movies themselves. This year is no different, with his spotlighting movies including Babygirl, Challengers, and I Saw The TV Glow alongside electrifying needle drops by Madonna and Lana Del Rey among others.

The 23-minute video is designed to raise funds for a good cause, with Ehrlich donating this year’s donations to Palestine Red Crescent Society. In a post accompanying the video, he writes: “These are hard times, and I understand that soliciting donations — even to the most valuable of causes — is a lot to ask. But this silly video is somehow the best leverage I have to help marshal urgently needed aid towards one of the worst humanitarian crises of my lifetime, so I sincerely hope those of you who can afford to give will join me in doing so.”
