The best concerts and shows to see in New York City in July 2025

There are thousands of shows to see in New York City every month, which makes keeping track of any kind of live show calendar hard and choosing between shows even harder. We here at The FADER are always making note of the upcoming performances we’re excited to catch, and we’re now publishing our picks for the most exciting shows coming up in the city. Ahead, find the 13 shows we’re most looking forward to in July 2025, from freak-folk to sludge metal to experimental grunge, and more.

July 3: Anastasia Coope, Lottie’s @ Night Club 101

Anastasia Coope 2024 debut album Darning Woman is a beguiling suite of nine strange snapshots, most lasting less than less than two minutes. Coope lives in a Brooklyn studio where she makes weird paintings and weird tracks, warped hillsongs that have one foot in the past and the other in the future but feel totally removed from the present.

July 9–12: Matana Roberts Residency @ The Stone (Coin Coin Community Solos)

Saxophonist and speaker Matana Roberts’ five-part Coin Coin album series (seven more parts are on the way in years to come) is an astonishing feat of musical expression and narrative world building, documenting African history in communion with her ancestors. Over the course of four nights at The Stone in Greenwich Village, she’ll perform and engage in conversations on trans rights and immigrant rights, educational freedom, and reproductive justice. All ticket proceeds will go to Roberts’ favorite “grassroots organizations fighting for change.”

July 11: Acid Bath, Eyehategod, Wailin Storms @ Brooklyn Paramount

Louisiana sludge metal icons Acid Bath (recently reunited) and Eyehategod (poisoning the world with their doomed sounds for nearly 40 years) will take the stage at the gorgeous Brooklyn Paramount, undoubtedly filling the massive room with a foul miasma that will be difficult to scrub out in the days after the show.

July 12: Jockstrap, Kenny Mason, Jane Remover, HiTech, Dazegxd, Kassie Krut @ Knockdown Center (Outline)

Knockdown Center’s Outline mini-festivals always boast impressive lineups, and this year’s summer edition does not disappoint: English synth-voice duo Jockstrap, boundary-busting rapper Kenny Mason, digicore progenitor Jane Remover and torch-carrier Dazegxd, Detroit ghettotech trio HiTech (currently the funnest group in the world), and Kassie Krut, the enthralling electronic trio making dance music punk again, will each attempt to blow the roof off of Knockdown’s hulking compound. They might just succeed.

July 13: L’Rain @ Union Pool

L’Rain is a fixture in New York’s experimental scene, but she’s been unusually quiet since touring behind her excellent 2023 album I Killed Your Dog, excluding some scattered shows here and there. The singular avant-R&B singer-producer-bandleader will perform in her hometown for the first time since April at the third 2025 edition of Union Pool’s free Summer Thunder Sunday series, along with special guests to be announced.

July 15: Pink Must, Briana Marela, Alice Does Computer Music @ Night Club 101

Renowned experimental artists more eaze and Lynn Avery offer a refreshingly weird take on grunge with their joint project Pink Must. Combining the analog and the digital, bathed in Auto-Tune and fuzz guitar, their songs are easy to listen to but sneakily complex. At Night Club 101, they’ll be joined by golden-voiced singer-composer Briana Marela and mesmeric synth sorceress Alice Does Computer Music.

July 18: Squanderers, Shahzad Ismaily Duo @ (Le) Poisson Rouge

Squanderers are the spontaneous trio of superhuman guitarists David Grubbs and Wendy Eisenberg and bass/production legend Kramer. Their 2024 debut, If a Body Meet a Body, finds the three electric string players tangled together in infinitely fascinating soundwebs that feel like moments trapped in time. They’ll be joined at LPR by equally iconic bassist Shahzad Ismaily, who adds a sense of transcendence to everything he touches.

July 19: Tommy Wright III, DJ Spanish Fly, Embaci, KeiyaA (DJ) @ Sugar Hill Supper Club

Rappers Tommy Wright III and La Chat and producer Spanish Fly are Memphis legends who don’t often make it up to the northeast, making this show one of the rarest of the summer. Joining them at the always popping Sugar Hill Supper Club are chaotically brilliant producer Embaci and unpindownable local staple KeiyaA, who’ll put on her DJ hat for the night. A packed summer evening at Sugar Hill has all the makings of a heat stroke, but this is a show you won’t want to miss.

July 19: This Is Lorelei, Greg Freeman, Dirt Buyer, and FearDorian @ Knockdown Center

This spectacular, FADER-core lineup combines everything we love: headliners This Is Lorelei’s intimate indie rock, Greg Freeman’s alternative country, and Atlantan FearDorian’s pretty and melodic rap.

July 19: BLOOM with RP Boo, DJ Manny, Bell Curve, TCJ, and More

Experience a night full of footwork, bass, and jungle with Chicago royalty RP Boo and DJ Manny plus local DJs Bell Curve, TCJ, and Kid Bata at the new Hannibal Burress-owned venue Isola.

July 23: A Night of Krautrock & Kosmische Musik with Eric Slick, Nels Cline, Cass McCombs, Kevin Morby, Steven Drozd, Spencer Tweedy, Brian Betancordt, Jessica Dobson, and Frank Locrasto @ Brooklyn Bowl

The booking at Brooklyn Bowl is often pretty corny but sometimes they put together a show that really hits. That should be the case for this krautrock night featuring a bill of artists whose music largely has nothing to do with krautrock. It’ll be interesting to see Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, Wilco relative Spencer Tweedy, folkmaster Cass McCombs, folk-rockmaster Kevin Morby, et al. do their takes on the pummeling German genre. If it all goes south, at least you get to bowl. Read our 2011 Cass McCombs cover story and listen to Kevin Morby on The FADER Interview podcast.

July 24: Novos Baianos @ Webster Hall

Novos Baianos were staples of the ‘70s tropicalía and MPB movements in Brazil, scenes that produced a disproportionate amount of the best music ever. Their 1972 sophomore album Acabou Chorare falls easily into this category, a near-perfect project combining breathtaking acoustic ballads and irresistible rockers. Novos Baianos have reunited several times since their dissolution in 1979, and their current live lineup contains their three surviving original members: Paulinho Boca de Cantor (vocals), Baby Consuelo (vocals, percussion), and Pepeu Gomes (guitar).

July 25: Cécile McLorin Salvant @ Bryant Park (Carnegie Hall Citywide)

Jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant is one of the most inventive singers of our time in any genre with an impressive catalog that’s amassed her six Grammy nominations. If you’ve never seen Salvant sing before, her exhibition is hands-down the show to attend this weekend.

July 25: Warm Up: Sarz, DJ Q, John Glacier, Tati au Miel @ MoMA PS1

MoMA PS1’s annual Warm Up series booked a standout night with this one. The U.K.’s John Glacier is one of the coolest new rappers around, and you can see her set sandwiched between Montreal DJ Tati au Miel, DJ Q, and what’s sure to be a rowdy headlining set from Nigerian super-producer Sarz.
