Sean “Diddy” Combs has launched a $100 million defamation suit against NBCUniversal, Peacock TV and Ample Entertainment over the documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy, according to a Variety report. Combs is currently imprisoned in New York on federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He also faces dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse and violence.
After its premiere on January 14, Making of a Bad Boy attracted attention for allegations beyond Combs’ charges, including implications of his involvement in the deaths of several people, including his one-time girlfriend Kim Porter. Porter died in 2018 of lobar pneumonia, and the documentary notes that in 2024 her children released a statement saying “there was no foul play” in their mother’s passing.
In a statement to The FADER Combs’ attorney Erica Wolff accused the defendants of making “a conscious decision to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency, and basic standards of professional journalism.”
“Grossly exploiting the trust of their audience and racing to outdo their competition for the most salacious Diddy exposé, Defendants maliciously and recklessly broadcast outrageous lies in “Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.” In the purported documentary, Defendants accuse Mr. Combs of horrible crimes, including serial murder and sexual assault of minors – knowing that there is no evidence to support them. In making and broadcasting these falsehoods, among others, Defendants seek only to capitalize on the public’s appetite for scandal without any regard for the truth and at the expense of Mr. Combs’s right to a fair trial. Mr. Combs brings this lawsuit to hold Defendants accountable for the extraordinary damage their reckless statements have caused.”
The lawsuit is asking for a jury trial and $100 million in damages.
