Seventhirtyatmorning’s taste in beats tilts toward the grandiose, bringing luxurious piano into conversation with moody plugg synths and agile drums. On the Minneapolis rapper’s February album Save Your Grievance, Seventhirty’s murmured flows and gentle melodies push songs like “HOMESICK” and “WAKE UP” to emotional highs; even when the tempo kicks into high gear on “TIME IS NOW,” his pitter-patter flow isn’t quite carefree, muttering, “I spent too many days/beating a dead horse damn.”
“Aimbot,” the outro of his latest EP almost inside, is a particularly lush entry in Seventhirtyatmorning’s repertoire, embellishing a swanky bed of synths with delicate piano arpeggios. “I’m assuming you ain’t got these problems that i got right here,” he slyly drawls. Bougie women want mimosas before giving neck in the Tesla roadster; he’s sneaking codeine past Japanese customs and sipping a latte at the capybara cafe. By the time you realize the song has slipped back into the refrain, wherein ugly women attempt to block Seventhirty from bagging their prettier friends, the song has already slipped into the ether.
