North West is a diehard SoundCloud stan, so it makes perfect sense that her beats come off like she’s auditioning for a placement on the next Molly Santana album. On January 2, she began sharing her production chops to Instagram (though her newly minted account was recently deleted), including a Hatsune Miku flip and another that feels like a spiritual successor to her collab with FKA Twigs.
Her beats are pretty slick for a preteen, a mix of rage rap with heavy EDM influence, and feel rooted in genuine fandom. Over on TikTok, you’ll find North’s videos soundtracked by prettifun, Xaviersobased, and OsamaSon. And for Halloween last year, she dressed up as Bktherula.
“Justswagup,” the new song by Mag!c and Lil Novi (aka Lil Wayne’s son), is her first official placement. It features floating incandescent synths over a bed of enveloping 808s. While most of the internet has fixated on Novi’s higher-energy flow, Mag!c’s mumbled verse is sneakily detailed, like when he enunciates every syllable in “Rest-au-rant / Shirley temple sippin.”
Based on Mag!c’s Instagram, we can expect a couple more North West tracks soon. A snippet of “Foreign Chopsticks” has an insistent, pulsing bass drum and a spacey vocal chop that makes me think of early era A$AP Rocky; then there’s the clip of the unreleased song “Not Just an Era,” which leans a little more into the rap-rock hybrid sound that shaped a solid chunk of Novi and Mag!c’s summer 2025 tape We Are Young Money Mötley Krëw. (That’s really the name of Novi and Mag!c’s rap crew, and yes, Lil Wayne was on their debut mixtape).
All I’m saying is, whenever North puts together a compilation album, Pharrell better watch out!
