Everything that happened at Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s Grand National Tour kickoff

Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s joint Grand National Tour finally kicked off in Minneapolis on Saturday, April 19, and it was a spectacle. Running through a whopping 52-song and nine-act set that saw the two megastars performing solo and together, Lamar and SZA played the hits and resurfaced deep-cuts from their respective catalogs.

Lamar kicked off the night with “wacced out murals,” rapping from the front seat of the now-iconic black Buick. He followed that up with “squabble up,” “King Kunta,” “ELEMENT,” and “tv off,” before ceding the stage to SZA for a run through her CTRL-era hits: “Love Galore,” “Broken Clock,” and “The Weekend.” And so the night continued, with the two stars switching off on stage and occasionally joining forces for a few tracks, like SZA filling in for Zacari during Lamar’s performance of “LOVE.” from DAMN. The two closed the night out with “gloria” and “luther,” their hit-of-the-moment that’s currently sitting at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

SZA almost fell during “Diamond Boy (DTM)”

While performing “Diamond Boy (DTM),” SZA almost took a tumble during a choreographed portion of the song with one of her backup dancers, who was dressed as a praying mantis (an insect-theme pervaded the singer’s portion of the show).

SZA and Kendrick Lamar showed off acting chops in video interludes

SZA and Lamar filmed a couple of spots to play during the show, including one clip that sees them playfully arguing about each other’s go-to gas station orders.

SZA filled in for Zacari during “LOVE.”

For Lamar’s performance of “LOVE.,” the romantic, Zacari-featuring hit from DAMN., SZA stepped in for Zacari’s role, further cementing the two’s sonic chemistry.
