Blood Orange, aka Dev Hynes, has officially announced details of his new studio album. Essex Honey will arrive on August 29, 2025, a full six years after the release of his previous effort, 2019’s Angel’s Pulse. Check out his announcement and the album cover art below.
The album takes its title from the county in southeast England that Hynes grew up in. Press materials note the project was “created from a dreamscape of his journey working through grief” and “the way music has inspired, healed, and interwoven itself through Hynes’ life.”
What songs are on Essex Honey?
The album includes the recent single “The Field,” plus two brand new songs, “Mind Loaded” and “Somewhere In Between.” Listen to both below.
Who else appears on the album?
Like all Blood Orange albums, Essex Honey features a vast array of collaborators from across the musical spectrum. They include Lorde, Caroline Polachek, Daniel Caesar, Mustafa, Brendan Yates of Turnstile, Tariq Al-Sabir, Ian Isiah, Tirzah, Eva Tolkin, The Durutti Column, Wet’s Kelly Zutrau, actors Naomi Scott and Amandala Stenberg, and Liam Benzvi. Author Zadie Smith also appears on the album with a song that will mark the first time she has sung on record.
What has Dev Hynes been up to since the last Blood Orange album?
In 2023 Hynes scored director Paul Schrader’s crime thriller Master Gardener while last year he provided the music for the Broadway production of Job. He also worked on the new Turnstile album, Never Enough, and has credits on Lorde’s Virgin.
Where can I see Blood Orange live in 2025?
Hynes recently confirmed details of a solo headline tour across North America, the U.K., and Europe to take place later this year. He will also be opening for both Lorde and Turnstile on their respective tours later in the year. See below for dates.
