If you’ve been contemplating switching from Spotify to Apple Music recently, Apple just made things a whole lot easier. Apple Music has expanded the release of a tool allowing its users to import playlists from other streaming services, including Spotify. After beta testing in Australia and New Zealand, it’s now available for customers in United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, and Mexico. The tool is accessible through iPhone and iPad: go to your device’s settings, scroll to Apps, and got to Music, where you’ll find a new item called Transfer Music From Other Music Services. MacRumors has the news and further details, including how to enable the transfer on your web browser.
The new tool comes as Spotify is facing a wave of criticism over investments led by co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek. Ek’s investment firm Prima Materia recently raised $700 million for Helsing, a German military AI tech company that has recently made the jump to drones and other machinery. A number of indie artists including Hotline TNT, Xiu Xiu, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard removed their music in protest, while other artists like Cindy Lee and Godspeed You! Black Emperor removed their catalogues from all streaming platforms.
