Unless you’re truly ancient or have an affection for terrible movies, you probably don’t remember the 1994 movie adaptation of the hit video game series Street Fighter. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue, Street Fighter bombed with audiences and critics upon release, though it’s later been reappraised as a classic of camp with the spirit (and the plot) of a theme park ride. Since the movie-going public can’t get enough of that sweet, sweet IP, Street Fighter is being rebooted. The film is currently in production with director Kitao Sakurai, and will release in theaters on October 16, 2026.
The cast list is out, and it’s absurd. Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji play the protagonists Ken and Ryu — pretty standard stuff, but then you’ve got 50 Cent as the Mike Tyson stand-in Balrog, Eric André as announcer Don Sauvage, and Orville Peck as Vega, a masked Spanish dandy.
Here’s the plot via The Hollywood Reporter: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
All this plus the presence of Kitao Sakurai (known for his work in comedy like Netflix’s Bad Trip and The Eric André Show) suggest that the film might be able to stand out from the deluge of franchised content. Probably not, though! We’ll just have to wait till next year to see. Check out the poster and full cast below.
