A Rising Star in the Studio
When I caught up with Loe Shimmy on a Thursday afternoon, the Pompano Beach MC was already back in the studio in Miami. Less than a week after his appearance on Drake’s new album HABIBTI, Shimmy is showing no signs of slowing down. “I’m gonna keep this momentum that I got and take full advantage of it,” he says, focused on the release of his new single “Body Dangerous” and his upcoming album, Pretty Girls Run The World.
Shimmy’s work ethic remains relentless. Having spent much of the previous year recording in transit—from private jets to greenrooms while touring with Lil Baby and Sexyy Red—he continues to thrive in high-pressure environments. Recently, he managed to cut a remix of “Type Shit” with YTB Fatt and Fox BD, call in Rob49 for a verse, and shoot a music video, all within a 24-hour window.

The collaboration on “I’m Spent” was a long time coming. Shimmy originally sent the song idea to Drake over a year ago. The track has quickly become a standout on the triple-album release, characterized by shimmering chords and a nocturnal, piano-driven ambience that echoes the soundscape of Shimmy’s 2024 project Nardyworld. The contrast between Drake’s deeper register and Shimmy’s signature gliding falsetto creates a tender, emotive performance that feels distinct within the project.
A Long-Standing Connection
Reflecting on their relationship, Shimmy recalls the first time Drake publicly supported his music. “Probably like four years ago, he posted that ‘Tina.’ It was unexpected,” Shimmy says. “That one single repost put a battery in my back; it made me believe in myself more.”
Since then, the two have developed a genuine rapport. After meeting in person during the Zombieland 2 era, they maintained a consistent line of communication. “When we linked in person, it was just genuine energy,” Shimmy explains. “I love his music, he fucks with my music, and I just fuck with bro hard.”
When it came time to finalize “I’m Spent” for HABIBTI, the process was collaborative. “He told me to send him a couple of songs… and he just now started working on that project a couple months ago,” Shimmy notes. “When I was in Africa, he had FaceTimed me. He helped orchestrate the whole song—that n***a is a real genius. He switched the beat up; he’s a real wizard.”
