A Sabrina Carpenter song titled “Manchild” always promised to be a tea-spilling moment and the Short N’ Sweet pop star has not disappointed with her brand new single. The Jack Antonoff-produced track takes aim at an unnamed person who is equal parts “useless,” “dumb,” “stupid,” and “slow.” Carpenter isn’t holding back with this one, think of it as “Not Like Us” for people who have Pop Crave notifcations turned on.
Of course, Carpenter doesn’t aim all of the insults at the manchild in her life. “I like my men all incompetent” she sings at one point while acknowledging that while this guy isn’t pleasing her very much, she stil finds him sexy.
Naturally, speculation will turn to who Carpenter wrote “Manchild” about. Of course, art is as much about fantasy as reality and just because someone says something in a song, it doesn’t mean they hold those views IRL. In other news, back in December it was reported that Carpenter had split from Saltburn and Hurry Up Tomorrow actor Barry Keoghan after a year together.
Last year Carpenter released Short N’ Sweet, the album that featured her breakout singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” She followed that with a deluxe edition of the album that featured, among other new songs, a collaboration with Dolly Parton. Carpenter will headline Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Spain on Friday night.
